{"id":3696,"date":"2019-11-20T11:55:43","date_gmt":"2019-11-20T10:55:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.massoth24.de\/?p=3696"},"modified":"2019-11-20T11:55:43","modified_gmt":"2019-11-20T10:55:43","slug":"grundlagen-ermittlung-der-stromaufnahme-von-loks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.massoth.de\/en\/grundlagen-ermittlung-der-stromaufnahme-von-loks\/","title":{"rendered":"Basics: Current measurement of locos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Before digitalization of a loco you have to select the right decoder.<br \/>\nManufacturer\u2019s data of current draw are not available in most cases or it is not reasonably usable.<br \/>\nSo it make\u2019s sense to build a small measuring equipment for each loco, to measure the current.<\/p>\n<p>You need: (see picture)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A LGB-transformer with apr. 22V(alt. a power supply)<\/li>\n<li>A meter for current measurement (Multimeter or analog instrument) .<\/li>\n<li>A bumper with a short rail<\/li>\n<li>Connection cable with track connectors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The transformer must have enough power for the locos to be tested. 5Amps are enough in normal ways.<br \/>\nAlso the measurement range must be selectable.<br \/>\nThe bumper must be fixed with the track (like LGB 10320 and track fixed with Massoth rail-clamps)<\/p>\n<p>Select on the meter DC-current measuring and connect it in one of the feed lines to the transformer (connect in series).<br \/>\nPlace the loco on the track and drive it to the bumper.<br \/>\nNow turn on full power on transformer and read the current drain on the meter.<\/p>\n<p>Notice following on measurement of the current:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make that test only short-time, while the wheels are damage fast your track.<\/li>\n<li>Make several measurements when your loco have a mode-switch.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(Measure only light, only motor or only sound if it possible.)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Otherwise measure in several steps and build differences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(Measure light, Motor +Light, Motor = Motor+Light-Light)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Important are the \u201cMotor-current\u201d and the \u201cCommon-current\u201d who is flow through the decoder.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(You can find both values in the technical data-sheet of the decoder).<\/p>\n<p>The measured current is the maximum value, who is flow on wheel-spin by max. voltage.<br \/>\nOn wheels who are not wheel-spin the current can be much higher.<br \/>\nAdd a security value of 50% to the measured value (On a measured value of 1 Amps the decoder should be supply 1,5 Amps motor current.<br \/>\nIf you connect accessories like light, vaporizer or sound, you have to consider it.)<\/p>\n<p>After fitting and check of the decoder you can measure comfortable the current with your navigator, if it is the only current drain on track.<br \/>\nThe value should be measured on max. speed with longest train and at biggest uphill grade.<br \/>\nThe value should not be bigger as the characteristics of the decoder.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/www.massoth.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Strommessung.jpg\" alt=\"Strommessung\" \/><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Before digitalization of a loco you have to select the right decoder.
