As dusk settles over the garden, illuminated passenger coaches really come into their own. Rows of seats, passengers and carefully arranged details become visible through the windows. Flickering lights caused by brief interruptions in power pickup can quickly spoil the effect.
The eMOTION 4WLR Coach Lighting Control (8128010) was developed specifically to modernise the lighting in LGB RhB express coaches. It replaces the factory-installed analogue control unit, combining connections for the existing coach lighting with an integrated power buffer.
Less Flickering Thanks to an Integrated Power Buffer
Brief interruptions in the power supply can noticeably affect the appearance of an illuminated train. The 4WLR’s built-in power buffer bridges these interruptions, reducing flickering in the coach lighting. The stored energy remains available even when track power is switched off or the coach is removed from the track: the buffer continues to supply the electronics until it is discharged. How long it lasts depends on the connected lighting and its power consumption. For reliable power pickup, both bogies can be connected to the two track connections on the underside of the circuit board.
Keep Your Existing Lighting
The 4WLR is designed to replace the original control unit. The wires from the existing coach lighting are transferred and soldered to the corresponding pads on the new board. Four lighting outputs are available for this purpose. Two MiniCT sockets on the top of the board provide connections for table lighting. An additional solder pad makes it easier to connect table lights in series. This allows the lighting in an RhB dining car, for example, to be incorporated into the conversion.
Ready for Massoth LED Flex Tubes
If you would also like to replace the light sources during the upgrade, the 4WLR provides dedicated connections for this purpose. Massoth LED Flex Tubes 8129540 with a colour temperature of 2200 K and 8129550 with 2700 K can be soldered directly to these connections, offering a choice of two warm lighting tones for your coach interiors. Two connections each support one LED Flex Tube. A further connection supports two LED Flex Tubes wired in series. The appropriate series resistors are already fitted to the board. Correct connection is essential: LED Flex Tubes must only be connected to the designated solder pads. The outputs for conventional coach lighting are not suitable for connecting LEDs or LED Flex Tubes directly.
Analogue and Digital Operation – with a Simple Switch
Operation is straightforward: the integrated slide switch turns the coach lighting on and off. No programming is required. In analogue operation, the 4WLR requires a sufficient track voltage of at least approximately 7 to 8 volts. It can also be used on layouts with DCC track power. On these layouts, the lighting remains powered even when the coach is stationary, as long as track power is present. The 4WLR does not contain a digital decoder. On digital layouts, the lighting is therefore also switched on and off directly using the slide switch.
A Practical Upgrade for Your Coach Lighting
The eMOTION 4WLR offers a solution tailored to LGB RhB express coaches, replacing the existing lighting control unit and bridging brief power interruptions. Existing lighting can be retained, while dedicated connections also allow conversion to Massoth LED Flex Tubes.
